Bottega Veneta under Daniel Lee (2018–2021) created the modern quiet-luxury blueprint — and the most aggressive resale-value retention in contemporary luxury. Under Matthieu Blazy (2021–2024), pricing discipline held but design widened. In the post-Blazy era, Bottega is showing up on sale at authorized retailers more frequently than it did at any point in the previous five years.
That's both opportunity and risk. Here's how to read it.
What's happening with the sale cycle
Bottega's sale selection in 2026 is materially larger than it was in 2022–2023. Two things drive this:
- Production expansion during the Blazy era— collections grew broader (more colorways, more silhouettes, more seasonal RTW), which means more inventory rotating through markdown.
- Post-Blazy creative transition— retailers clearing Blazy-era stock while new direction materializes.
For buyers, this means Bottega discounts at 25–40% are now realistically findable at Mytheresa, SSENSE, and Net-a-Porter during sale windows. That would have been unusual before 2024.
The three pieces worth buying at any discount
1. Jodie (small or medium)
The Jodie is Bottega's single strongest resale performer after the Cassette. Intrecciato hobo silhouette, no visible logo, five-year resale retention ~75% on Fashionphile. Available in 10–15 colors but buy classic colors only— fondant, espresso, pouder, black. Seasonal colors depreciate.
2. Cassette
The Cassette (small camera-bag silhouette) has a slightly weaker secondary market than Jodie but benefits from being structurally sturdier — the rigid form holds shape long-term. Crossbody functionality makes it more versatile. Same color-discipline rule as Jodie.
3. Intrecciato cardholder or pouch
Small-format intrecciato in classic colors is underrated — same hand-woven leather as the main bags at $350–$600 instead of $3,000+. Goes on sale about twice a year during private sale windows. When you see it at 25–30% off, buy.
The traps
- Printed intrecciato. Any pattern or print (woven two-tone, dyed panels) depreciates hard. The whole point of intrecciato is the material speaking for itself.
- Novelty silhouettes from recent seasons (the puffed shapes, the oversized totes, the runway mini-mini variants). Beautiful pieces, but tied to specific collections and age out fast.
- Bottega Veneta shoes. Outside the Lido mule and the core sandal range, shoe silhouettes rotate faster than bag silhouettes. The shoe resale market for Bottega is thin.
The buyer's rule
Bottega in classic intrecciato + classic color + core silhouette (Jodie, Cassette, or small leather goods) is still one of the cleanest quiet-luxury investments. The post-Blazy discount availability is a buying opportunity if you stay disciplined on the three-filter rule. Anything outside those filters depreciates like most contemporary luxury — fast.
